Moving on from Buffalo

A few notes from the teleconference with Edsall Sunday.
  • Game balls to Robbie Frey (offense), Jerome Junior (defense) and Anthony Sherman (special teams).
  • Edsall would have liked to see the offensive line play a little more physically at times.
  • Sio Moore has been backing up Lawrence Wilson at the 'will' linebacker, but played his way into a starting role. But, Edsall said, those were the teams two best linebackers, and the decision was made to move Sio to the middle in place of Greg Lloyd. "It was no more than that," Edsall said. "You get into those nickel situations, and you had Lawrence play the 'mike' before, and Sio in there. And we looked at it, we said we would be better off playing our base defense before. That's the way we decided to go. We have our best 11 on the field that way."
  • Edsall sidestepped a question about Lloyd and whether he may have lost a step after his knee surgery. "Right now, he's a backup middle linebacker," Edsall said. "We have the two best guys we have to play the inside linebacker spots are Lawrence Wilson and Sio Moore."
  • The Jonathan-Jean Louis position merry-go-around continues. He has been moved from tailback to outside linebacker. There are some other personnel changes Edsall said he wants to discuss on Tuesday.

Chip, I was down on Robbie Frey here last week but I was wrong. He did a great job in the second half and showed bursts of speed. Shoemate is a banger but he goes down a lot on the first hit. I am curious why it was thought he could be a tauilback here after playing fullback at USC.

I know the coach isn't saying but what is your guess-timate on the length of time Todman is out?

See ya See ya....Tony

How you doin', Tony
How you doin'

I said on the blog that Frey was the second best back throughout training camp. Shoemate is slow to the holes at times, where Robbie and Jordan explode when they see the opening.

I've been speculating since I saw Todman get hurt that he has a fracture (cracked radial head, to be specific). I expect he'll be out for Vandy and Rutgers. With the week off, he could return for Louisville since that would be five weeks. He could be back for Rutgers, but it might be risky at just three weeks...if it's a fracture, and, of course, I don't know for sure.
