Opening practice is underway

I can't report too much from the 30 or so minutes of the first practice I was privy to.

No real surprises in the pecking order of things. When the defense took the field, it was all the guys at the top of the depth chart trotted out for the first defensive drill (defensive ends Angelo Pruitt and Reuben Frank; defensive tackles B.J. McBryde and Julien Campenni; linebackers Graham Stewart, Jefferson Ashiru, Marquise Vann; cornerbacks Byron Jones, Jhavon Williams and safeties Obi Melifonwu and Andrew Adams).

Andreas Knappe was the first guy out at right tackle on offense and Gus Cruz (who missed the last seven games last season with a cardiac issue) was also with the first-team offensive line.

Bear in mind this is day one. The pecking order could be of more importance a couple weeks from now.

The best news is I didn't see one guy on the sidelines or on the stationary bike so that is a positive start.

There was some news coming out of the camp of UConn's first opponent as Jamaal Williams, who rushed for more than 1,200 yards for BYU during the 2013 season, told reporters that he was suspended for the season opener against UConn.

Here are some videos I shot.
