Whitmer encouraged by progress of UConn's offense
When UConn opened its practice to the media and fans on Tuesday, it was anything but a showcase for the quarterbacks.
Whether it starter Chandler Whitmer, reserve Casey Cochran or the three true freshmen (Tim Boyle, Richard Lagow and Kivon Taylor) it was far from a productive set of drills as the offense turned the ball over time after time while working in 11 on 11 drills against the Huskies' defense.
On Thursday the team had a scrimmage and according to Whitmer, the results were significantly more positive than the ones in practice just two days earlier.
"In the red zone and on the goal line I think we were around 70 percent," Whitmer said. "The 1’s (starters) we scored on both of those opportunities and that was good. We need to put some drives together a little longer, get some runs and passes in there
"We are ironing things out and that is what we are trying to do here in camp. It is good to see some results and positive plays in there but we still have work to do."
