Mayala eager to get to UConn

As dress rehearsals go, it wasn't a bad night's work for UConn commit Hergy Mayala.

Mayala, playing in Connecticut for the last time before heading to UConn, had five catches for 141 yards including a 71-yard touchdown pass. He added two tackles, had two pass breakups on consecutive plays and averaged nearly 40 yards on three punts as Trinity-Pawling won 23-14 at Salisbury.

"It felt great," Mayala said. "It was a great feeling to be one (long touchdown) in there."

Mayala could have had three touchdowns as he was unable to hold onto a pass on a slant pattern and then was one broken tackle away from scoring on the final possession of the game.

Mayala said he intends to be in attendance at today's UCF game. It will be his second visit to UConn but first time he takes in a game.

"Definitely my head is lighter because (of the commitment)," Mayala said. "It was a blessing and I still can't believe it."

Mayala is part of a large group of receivers coming in next season.

"They definitely want me to be a big part of the offense, come in and contribute right away," Mayala said.

As for the class he will be coming in with, Mayala said "I talk to them every day. We have a group and every day we talk to each other, let each other know how things are going.

"We will change the program."

Mayala is originally from Montreal and after one of his former high school teammates had a positive experience at Trinity-Pawling, Mayala decided to follow the same path.

"He let me know about it. I just came down for a visit and I just liked it."

Speaking of today's game, a live blog is up and running.
