UConn releases 2013 schedule
UConn released its 2013 football schedule today with the Huskies playing six bowl teams and having seven of the 12 games at Rentschler Field.
UConn, coming off a second straight 5-7 season, opens with three straight non-conference games at home as the Huskies face Towson on Aug. 29, Maryland on Sept. 14 and Michigan on Sept. 14. The road opener is Sept. 28 at Buffalo while UConn opens Big East play on Oct. 12 with a home game against South Florida.
The Huskies play at Cincinnati, which is coming off a 10-3 record and win in the Belk Bowl, on Oct. 12 and then head to Orlando to play new conference member Central Florida, another 10-win team in 2012, on Oct. 26. That will be followed by a nationally-televised home game with Sugar Bowl champion Louisville. The Huskies hit the road for games against Southern Methodist and Temple on Nov. 16 and 23 before wrapping up the regular season with home games against Rutgers on Nov. 30 and Memphis on Dec. 7.
UConn returns is toip quarterback (Chandler Whitmer) leading rusher (Lyle McCombs), top two receivers (Geremy Davis and Shakim Phillips), six offensive linemen who started games a season ago and its leading tackler (Yawin Smallwood) but need to replace six starters on defense and its top two tight ends.
