Pregame from Heinz Field. Want a photo with Dave Wannestedt?

Arrived at Heinz Field around 5:00. Would have been here a little sooner, but I was cut off by the procession of police-escorted busses taking UConn to the game. No biggie. Got a freebie as I was walking to the stadium, a Geico visor featuring a patch of the famous caveman from their commercials. I'll never wear it in a million years. But I took it anyway. Lots of tailgaiting and pretty good atmosphere surrounding the stadium. Don't know how many of those folks had tickets, but if it's any indication there might be 40,000 for the game tonight.

Security getting up to the press box is a little, uh, tight. Most stadiums take a peek inside your bag, tag it, and send you on your way. Not here. Had to take out my lap top and turn it on. Had to turn on my cell phone, then punch a few keys. Thought that was it, but I was ordered to return to get patted down by an 18-year old security guard. I put my foot down at the stool sample, however.

Took a walk down to field level to get a glimpse of the stadium and the surroundings. It's a natural grass field. Didn't think they existed any more. Field looks to be in good shape. Tony Ciaravino and Dave Teggart were blasting field goals, with some Pitt students heckling from the stands behind the uprights. Also watched Dave Wannestedt shake hands and pose for photos with seemingly every one of the 2,000 recruits and their families on the sidelines. I can't picture Randy Edsall doing this 50 minutes before gametime. Maybe I'm wrong. Also saw Pitt alum, former NFLer and broadcasting disaster Tony Siragusa milling around on the field. And for all the security getting into the press box, I mistakenly wandered into the Pitt locker room trying to find my way back through the maze beneath the stadium. Got myself out of there in a hurry, but had to laugh at the irony. Endure a full body cavity search to get up to the press box, but the locker room is open to all. Nice job.

We're about 20 minutes from kickoff. Enjoy the game.

  1. OK..thank GOD I didn't go to watch this game with Detroittigershater...he would have berated me all night long. Instead, Ol' Vincenzo went out in Branford looking for girls. Unfortunately, I find myself here again commenting on the UConn blog. 4-0? Are you kidding me? This has to be the worst undefeated team in the nation. However, even I have to give credit where credit is due...incredible win. I only have two questions...1) How bad is Pitt? and, 2) would UConn beat Trinity?
The answer to the first is - TERRIBLE. The second? It's a pick' em.

  2. You are damn right I would have berated you. That was a good win after last week's scare. However, as I was reading Chip's article naming this as the biggest win since Toledo I couldn't help but wonder whether there is a point shaving scandal underway at Pitt now, too. I love the Huskies too much to even worry of such nonsense and will just be happy with the win. Pitt sure does stink though. As for Trinity, I am sure the UConn practice squad is actively looking for games. Trinity would probably lose to them by 30 but at least the practice squad wouldn't cripple them.

  3. Now on to some real issues..

    Chip,

I put in my picks yesterday morning but don't see them up yet. I don't think I performed well but I had a few W's that could be critical to me getting control of the blog and getting you fired!!!

    "Anonymous",

A few things to take you to task on...

    1) Though shalt never post on a blog busting someone's stones and not have the decency to put a name to it. I beleive Vinny deserves more than that. After all, he always puts his name to his taunts.

    2) Vinny is not a BC alum and has never posted anywhere under the name BC Alum. He has provided us all enough to know where he really went to school.

    3) Here is the real irony. You accuse the man of posting on two sites under two names and "having no life" because he does this. I have to question however the status of your life for having been in both places yourself to deduce what you have incorrectly deduced.

    4) Finally, I offered everyone on this sight an opportunity to come and meet Vinny in person at the Temple game last week as I had finally convinced him to come to a game with me so I could taunt him face to face (boy did I ever regret that when UConn put up a stinker). It seems you of all people Mr Anonymous should have taken me up on this offer.

I beleive we all value the comic content Vinny provides and we all like to have some fun with him. Let's not do it under the "anonymous" moniker for fear of him having some fun back at us. Bring it on, Vin!!!

  5. After watching them squeak by army, no question lowly BC is the worst undefeated team in the nation. None. What a slow and unthletic team (I was at the game).

And reading a previous blog post-YOU'RE BCALUM!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be the most ridiculed girl on the message boards.

  6. In case my picks never show up, I had Cuse, South Florida, and Western Michigan right and as with everyone else I pushed on Washington. If I lose the end of the year by less than 3 I will submit a petition to share the blog for the day with whoever wins. Man, I hope it is Vinny!!!

  7. Sorry again, Mr. Anonymous. I am a very proud UConn Alum that loves my Huskies and doesn't post as anonymous. You are the loser in this room!!!!

  8. Hey Tigers Hater, I never got your picks. Not sure what happened. Maybe we can work something out. The blog server has been doing strange things recently, including failing to correctly put comments in proper order. As you can see, you managed to take 'anonymous' to task before he even posted. I'm still in Pittsburgh, but will tinker with the site when I return home this afternoon.

  9. Pitt really isn't that bad. They just need to run faster.

This is an important win for the program this season because it was a road win. UConn is probably better than Syracuse as well. So UConn is stuck between Pitt/SU and perhaps Cincy.

If UConn is going to make a statement then it needs beat USF, Louisville or Rutgers at home.

  10. So who gave UCONN 3 votes in the AP Poll? We got more votes then Virginia and Tennessee.
