Some Monday news after all

Three former walk-ons (two from the New Haven area) have been elevated to scholarship players: ex-Seymour High kicker Graig Vicidomino, OL Donald Thomas of West Haven and punter Chris Pavasaris of Needham, Mass. Well deserved. Pavasaris wound up winning the starting job last season, Vicidomino nailed a pair of field goals against Army when pressed into action for injured Matt Nuzie last October, and Thomas should see action as the backup to Immanuel Hutcherson at right guard.

Also, Edsall announced Deon Anderson and Donta Moore both had their scholarships reinstated after both paid their own way last semester.

Great to see true scholar-athletes (to me walk-ons epitimize all that college athletics should be) rewarded for their efforts. Particularly a Rhodes-scholar candidate like Pavasaris.

As a diehard UCONN fan, I'm surprised Deon Anderson and Donta Moore are still on the team. What they did last year was inexcusable and I'm shocked that Edsall would let them remain with the team.

"fishy", Anderson didn't do anything last year. He wasn't on the team, leaving school in Spring 2004 to deal with some family issues that came up.

After deciding he needed to finish his degree he re-enrolled in January, paying his own way, and walking back onto the football team.

It's good to see UConn and this blog have garnered enough attention and interest, to all ready have three different flamers on it. Thanks for your interest in UConn football.

I agree. It's refreshing to see people point out UCONN's questionable actions because this shows that we are acting like a big time football program. Soon, we'll be another Ohio State, Miami, or SMU.

Don't hold your breath, "fishy". About the only thing UConn will ever have in common with big-time football programs is the arrests and recruiting violations.
